WATERTOWN, S.D. (AP) — Schools in Watertown are working to preserve student-made banners that were signed by President Barack Obama during his visit last month.

The Watertown Public Opinion reports each school decided to make posters to welcome Obama to the northeastern South Dakota city. Lincoln Elementary Principal Susan Patrick says students and teachers hoped he would see the posters, but didn't think he'd take the time to sign each one.

Patrick says now the banners are being prepped for framing and preservation. She says they'll be hanging in each school by the time students return in the fall.

Patrick says many of the students who worked on the banners were kindergartners. She says they likely don't comprehend the excitement behind getting the president's signature, but likely will as they get older.
