(AP) - West Des Moines school board members have opted to spend nearly $100,000 extra to upgrade flooring at the new Valley High School cafeteria because the polished concrete that had been planned can't withstand mustard stains.

The Des Moines Register reports  that board member voted Friday to upgrade to a vinyl tile that will resist mustard and other stains.

Although board members approved the extra expense, they clearly weren't happy about the matter.

As board member Jill Hansen put it, "It would be cheaper to ban mustard."

Workers made the discovery after testing the floor's resistance to mustard, mayonnaise, ketchup and a fruit drink.
