SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — The head of Dakotas-based Sanford Health and its major benefactor are speaking at a conference this week in Vatican City.

Pope Francis also is scheduled to appear at the Cellular Horizons conference Thursday through Saturday, and Vice President Joe Biden is slated to speak.

The conference will address the progress of regenerative medicine and its cultural impact. It was created by the Vatican's Pontifical Council for Culture and the New York-based Stem for Life Foundation.

The Argus Leader reports Sanford CEO Kelby Krabbenhoft and philanthropist T. Denny Sanford will be part of a panel on philanthropy. Several Sanford doctors will be on other panels.

Sanford Health is one of the largest health systems in the nation, with 43 hospitals and nearly 250 clinics in nine states and three countries.
