YANKTON, S.D. (AP) — The bells will ring again outside Yankton businesses for the first time in nearly 20 years.

Carol Pooler of the local Salvation Army says volunteers stopped gathering donations in kettles because of tight budgets and a lack of activity.

But she tells the Press & Dakotan there's been interest from possible volunteers and some businesses.

Pooler says she hopes to see bell ringing become a tradition again during the holidays so the organization can help more people.
