The 2013 Grand Lighting Ceremony for Christmas at the South Dakota Capitol was held in the rotunda on Tuesday evening, Nov. 26, at 7 p.m.

The Capitol Christmas display includes nearly 100 trees that are decorated by volunteers from communities, schools, churches, nonprofit organizations and state government offices.

The largest of the trees in the rotunda was decorated by the Department of Game, Fish & Parks. The 38-foot blue spruce was donated by Brandon residents Cassandra and Brandon Deffenbaugh. It was trimmed to fit in the Capitol.

The holiday display will be open to the public from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily from Nov. 27 through Dec. 28. Anyone wishing to provide entertainment at the Capitol during the holiday season should contact Catherine Duenwald at Catherine.Duenwald@state.sd.us or call her at 605-773-8217.
