Run For Your Life. Watch Out, It Might Kill You

Here’s something that will make every hardcore running enthusiast cringe, there’s now a study out that says too much jogging can kill you!

I’m a runner. I love to run! I run 6-days a week, probably around 25 miles each week, give or take a few miles. I consider myself to be a moderate runner, not one of these hardcore running fanatics. But I do enjoy running, and when I don’t get out for a run I feel extremely guilty.

Now here comes this study out of the Cardiovascular Research Institute in Allentown, Pennsylvania that says people who run for more than a few hours a week have similar lifespans to people who never exercise. Huh? How can that even be possible?

The biggest theory behind it is that running causes too much wear and tear on the body, which causes the body to break down early.

At the moment I can relate. I pulled a hamstring a little over a week ago, and I’m currently hobbling around like an 85 year old man. This is weird, because I don’t look a day over 83.

Regardless, I’m still out there running. Yeah, I know, I’m an idiot! Ask any runner, once it gets in your blood, it’s tough to quit. Even though the smart thing to do would be to take a little time off to heal up.

According to the study, the healthiest people are the ones who get a moderate amount of exercise but don’t overdo it.

When studies like this one come out, it’s really too bad. Because all it does is give the person who is on the fence about getting into a consistent exercise routine another reason to grab a box of donuts, sit on the couch and let whatever happens, happen.

My advice, don’t let that happen. Don’t let this latest news about running discourage you. Stick with it, in moderation. Trust me, you’ll thank yourself.
