Due to health troubles, Rodney Crowell has canceled the rest of his 2017 tour dates. The singer-songwriter announced the news via social media on Tuesday (Sept. 19).

Crowell's note about his tour's cancellation does not share the exact details of his ailments. Instead, he writes that "[a]n impressive team of doctors have confirmed what for the past year I’ve instinctively known: dealing with the root cause of my health issues requires complete rest."

"For the foreseeable future, with expert medical guidance, my work will consist of quietly encouraging my body to return to its natural state," Crowell adds. "I’m sorry for any inconvenience this may cause."

On Sept. 13, Crowell's song "It Ain't Over Yet" won Song of the Year at the 2017 Americana Music Awards; however, he was not on hand to accept his award. Crowell also canceled his Saturday (Sept. 16) performance at the Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion before officially announcing the cancellation of the rest of his 2017 tour dates.

Crowell released a new album, Close Ties, in late March. In mid-February, he embarked on a tour in support of the project. Earlier this year, Crowell was forced to cancel a few tour dates due to pain from several bulging and ruptured discs in his spine. At that time, Vintage Vinyl News reports, Crowell was hoping to avoid having surgery for the issue by working with a physical therapist. It is unclear if this issue is the same one that led Crowell to cancel shows this time around.
