The NFL is rolling the dice next February when it brings Super Bowl XLVIII (that's 48, by the way) outdoors to New Jersey, February 2nd.

And as if the threat of cold weather isn't bad enough, apparently the NFL wants to shake things up when it comes to the entertainment.

Rather than going with an established musical from the Northeast for the halftime show - say Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Billy Joel, or event Jay Z, the 'braintrust' at the NFL, according to the Associated Press, has decided on pop star Bruno Mars.

Mars, who by the way hails from nowhere nearby Hawaii, is a Grammy winner - I'll give you that - but given the fact that he's cranked out exactly two, that's right two, albums in his career, shouldn't give him 'dibs' to one the most coveted gigs out there.

There may be a time in the future when his star shines bright enough to command that kind of respect, but now isn't it.

I don't know exactly where I'll be during halftime of Super Bowl XLVIII, but I know where I won't be - anywhere close to a TV set.
