It was the biggest hit comedy television show of the 1960's and one of the biggest of all time.

We all loved the Clampett's, especially Granny. Jed was the head of the clan, Jethro the big, bumbling nephew that Jane Hathaway was always after. And Mr. Drysdale? Well, he kept a close eye on those millions.

But do you recall the character Dash Riprock, the suave movie actor that tried to sweep Ellie May off her feet?

Dash debuted on The Hillbillies in January 1965 and appeared sporadically throughout the season. And no, he was never able to corral the wild Ellie May.

The actor who played the actor Dash Riprock was actually Larry Pennell. He appeared in many, many television shows and movies. And did you know he was a professional baseball player? Yes, he spent seven years in the Boston braves organization. (Yes kids, the Braves were once in Boston!) A Korean War era veteran, it was after that he turned to acting.

Whatever happened to him?

He acted as recently as 2006,and Larry passed away in August 2013 at the age of 85.
