Sheb Wooley was Ben Colder.  Ben Colder was Sheb Wooley.

Huh??

Those of us with a little 'season' on our age will remember Sheb/Ben.  If you happen to be of a 'greener' age, perhaps not.

Sheb Wooley was a lot of things, a lot of talented things.

Acting? He played Ben Miller in one of Hollywood's most classic movies, 'High Noon'.  You may recall seeing Sheb in 'Hoosiers', playing the school principle. He also played Travis Cobb in the Clint Eastwood classic western 'The Outlaw Josie Wales'.

Oh, and speaking of the legendary Clint Eastwood, Sheb co-starred with him in the classic TV western 'Rawhide'.   In this classic Rawhide clip, Sheb (as scout Pete Nolan) sit's by the campfire and sings a song.  Yes, Sheb was a world class singer as well.

While Sheb had several country music hits, it was the 1958 novelty song 'Purple People Eater' that is his most well known song.

And then there was....Ben Colder.

Ben was kind of Sheb's 'alter-ego', a country singer that...well...tipped the bottle a little too much (OK, a lot too much).  Singing parodies of the biggest hit's of the day, an inebriated Ben would entertain audiences with his comedy and shall we say 'unique' vocal style.  Listen to Ben (Sheb) give his take on the Willie Nelson penned Faron Young classic 'Hello Walls'.

We lost Sheb back in 2003 at the age of 82.  And Ben passed away at the same time.  But thankfully we have the great acting...the great singing...the great comedy to enjoy.
