PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — Biking enthusiasts can now register for next year's three-day, 109-mile Mickelson Trail Trek in the Black Hills.

The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department says registration is now open for the 600 spots for the event's 19th edition.

The ride over the weekend of Sept. 16-18 runs from Edgemont to Lead-Deadwood. It is open to everyone 14 years old or older.

The event began as a celebration of the completion of the rails-to-trails project and continues as a way to introduce new riders to the trail.

The $190 registration fee includes the trail pass, shuttle service, refreshments and some meals. Riders are responsible for accommodations and mechanical support.
