WATERTOWN, S.D. (AP) — Taxidermists from the Midwest will be traveling to Watertown for the South Dakota Taxidermist Association's 2016 competition and convention.

The event starts on March 18 at the Watertown Event Center.

Kyle Schlesser is president of the South Dakota Taxidermist Association. He says he expects between 80 and 100 taxidermists to attend the event, adding up to as many as 140 different mounts to display.

The gathering is also a competition featuring prizes. The convention's species challenge is the bobcat.

Schlesser says he enjoys meeting people and says the event is a good way for new taxidermists to learn what it's about.

He says the event will attract people from Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska and the Dakotas. The public can attend the gathering.
