Red Cross Concludes Post-Tornado Family Casework in Delmont

DELMONT, S.D. (AP) — The American Red Cross has wrapped up its family casework relief efforts in the tornado-ravaged town of Delmont.

The agency opened cases on 60 families after the May 10 tornado, and the last of the cases was closed this week.

The storm damaged or destroyed 84 structures in and around Delmont and injured nine people. The National Weather Service rated the twister an EF-2, with a peak wind speed of 130 mph.

The Red Cross says volunteers served more than 15,000 meals and snacks the week following the disaster. The agency also has provided some financial assistance to impacted families, and helped refer them to other agencies for additional aid.

The Red Cross says staff and volunteers will continue attending community meetings and working with leaders as the rebuilding continues.
