Rapid City Schools Won’t Make Up Snow Days

RAPID CITY - School children in Rapid City have some good news coming to them.

The superintendent of the city's school district tells The Rapid City Journal that despite having to cancel school five days because of snow this year, no make-up days will be added to the end of the school year.

Superintendent Tim Mitchell says students in the Rapid City school district already receive more hours of instruction than required by the state.

The state requires 875 hours of instruction for students in K-3 and 962.5 hours of instruction for students in grades 4-12. Even without making up any days, elementary students will receive 983 hours of instruction, and middle and high school students will receive 990 hours of instruction.
