RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — A man suffered what authorities say are life-threatening injuries in an explosion in a mobile home in Rapid City.

Fire Department Battalion Chief Rob Powell says the man in his 60s was taken to a hospital after the blast about 6:30 p.m. Sunday with burns to his face and upper airway. His name was not immediately released.

The cause of the explosion was not immediately determined but Powell says it appears to be accidental. He says it might be linked to an oxygen tank the man was using for breathing.

The home was destroyed and a pet was killed. Vehicles in front of the home and at least one neighboring home were damaged.
