RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — Rapid City police arrested a man for driving drunk twice in a span of about three hours, in two different vehicles.

KEVN-TV reports that officers first arrested the 37-year-old man early Wednesday after a hit-and-run incident involving his pickup truck.

The man was jailed but bonded out, and authorities say officers later found him sleeping in the driver's seat of another pickup truck pulled to the side of a road.

The Rapid City Journal reports that a police mistake led to the man being released on $300 bond for a misdemeanor after his first arrest. The man should have been charged with a felony because he had prior DUI convictions. That would have kept him in jail until a judge set bond the next day.
