RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — A property management company in Rapid City is seeking permission from the city to build a fence around one of its properties in an attempt to stem the number of homeless people that come onto its grounds.

TKRS Properties owns the Prairie Market building in Rapid City. Property manager David Milbrandt tells the Rapid City Journal the fence is a security measure designed to keep homeless people from easily coming onto the properties at Times Square Plaza.

Milbrandt says many people buy alcohol and like to stop along their buildings. He says that customers and business owners were feeling increasingly uncomfortable with the transient groups loitering around the businesses.

The city must still sign off on the proposal to build the fence.
