SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — A program that provides assistance to women fleeing abusive relationships in Sioux Falls could end because of funding cuts.

The Argus Leader reports that grant funding for Mita Maske Ti Ki, also called My Sister Friends' House, ran dry in April.

The program stopped offering temporary shelter to women, but continued offering counseling and other services.

Now, the program could end all together if no funding source comes through. The nonprofit overseeing the program is hoping that the U.S. Department of Justice will approve a grant.

The limited funding has left the program with only one staffer. The nonprofit's executive director, Lisa Heth, says that if the program is not awarded the Justice Department grant this fall, the nonprofit won't be able to afford the program's single staffer.
