DEADWOOD, S.D. (AP) — A homeowner in Deadwood will be nominated to get up to $100,000 for rehabilitation work under a new program.

The Black Hills Pioneer reports the program is meant to encourage restoring and protecting buildings that contribute to Deadwood's historic integrity. The Historic Preservation Commission will pay costs of restoration or repair, capped at $100,000.

Historic Preservation Officer Kevin Kuchenbecker says the program arose as a way for giving a homeowner's property a makeover. He says the deadline for nominations is April 15th. The recipient must be nominated by a resident or neighbor.

Kuchenbecker says the program is being looked at as a pilot project, with hopes to have it available in future funding cycles.
