The Dog Days of Summer free bus passes for kids is certainly getting used by those 18 and under in the city.

Councilor Greg Jamison offers the details of the passes, also known as dog tags:

327 of the tags have been distributed, of which 145 were distributed by the school district.  So there's some movement there.

Sioux Area Metro is keeping track of which routes are being used by the kids, to analyze at the end of the summer and decide how to plan for kids and free rides on the SAM in the future.  The benefits including allowing children to get to city pools and parks, the free lunch programs, and to develop an understanding the benefits of public transportation which could last a lifetime.
