Sioux Falls Police issued a statement on Saturday (June 24) regarding an incident that took place earlier in the evening.

According to Sergeant Tommy Schmitz of the Sioux Falls Police Department at 8:48 PM officers responded responded to a report of an intoxicated man that had threatened his children with a firearm in a northeast Sioux Falls neighborhood:

The surrounding roads were shut down and a perimeter was established due to the initial information the subject was believed to still be inside a residence with several children.  Information developed that the subject had left in a vehicle prior to law enforcement’s arrival and he was eventually located and arrested in Minnehaha County without incident.  The involved children were all located, one had minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

Schmitz said Chad Allen Johnson was arrested and charged with aggravated assault domestic, simple assault domestic and possession of a firearm while intoxicated. Johnson was incarcerated at the Minnehaha County Jail.
