RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — Authorities have identified a Box Elder man who died in a Rapid City shooting that left another man critically injured.

Police say 42-year-old Anthony Valandra shot another man inside an apartment Monday night, then shot himself in the head after being wounded by a private security guard outside the building.

Valandra died at a hospital. The man he allegedly shot was hospitalized in critical condition. Authorities did not immediately identify him.

Police also say the security guard acted in self-defense, after Valandra shot at him and a bystander but missed.

Authorities say they found items in the apartment related to illegal drugs. They say Valandra and the shooting victim have a criminal history involving drugs.
