An intoxicated Sioux Falls man was arrested after he allegedly shot his dog in the face with a 44 magnum.

"Once this happened, he called a relative. The relative ended up calling police. We found him inside with the injured dog. The dog was taken to the vet to get treatment," explained Clemens.

"We are still trying to piece together exactly what happened, what led up to this. The suspect was pretty intoxicated. We weren't able to figure out all the details as of yet. The man was arrested for reckless discharge of a firearm and possession of a loaded firearm while intoxicated."

Clemens says the dog is not doing well.

"We haven't had any details today. But, the latest information was the dog wasn't doing well over the weekend."

Clemens identified the shooting as 36-year-old Michael Francis Schwarz of Sioux Falls.
