MITCHELL, S.D. (AP) — Mitchell City Council members say they feel no need to review police protocol for pursuits in the wake of two recent chases that resulted in crashes, injuries and a fatality.

Mayor Ken Tracy says based on the information he has, he thinks police acted appropriately. City Council members also tell The Daily Republic they don't think micromanagement is in the best interest of either the council or the police department.

In one chase last month, suspect Ryan McManus crashed into a parked car and died. Authorities said his blood alcohol level was four times the legal limit for driving.

In the other pursuit, suspect Charles Reed allegedly caused a three-vehicle crash that injured two children, their mother and a police officer. Reed has pleaded not guilty to several charges.
