Although there are a number of burglaries that take place in Sioux Falls, this one is a bit different.

Sioux Falls Police Department Public Information Officer Sam Clemens explains.

"We had some people that were sleeping in a home on the northwest part of Sioux Falls. There was a 15-year-old girl who was in the living room. She heard a noise by the door. Somebody ended up walking in the house through an unlocked door. The girl ended up going to a different room, locking herself inside and called police.
When officers arrived they found a man in a utility room eating some shredded cheese that he apparently got from the kitchen. He was arrested for burglary charges and underage consumption."

Clemens says most burglars don't hang around once they get what they want.

"There's a lot of burglaries that happen especially with unlocked homes or apartments. Most of the time people are in there and grab something of value and then leave. They don't generally stick around and eat food."

Clemens identified the suspected burglar as 20year-old Derick Neuman of Elk Point.
