Witnesses say he was trying to jump from the plane.

Aviation officials are applauding the efforts of the passengers aboard a Southwest Airlines flight from Chicago to Sacramento, Ca. Monday as a man later identified as Joshua Carl Lee Suggs, 23, tried to open the door to the aircraft.

One female passenger said she heard a lady in the rear of the plane begin to scream and that's when a group of male passengers rushed to the back of the plane and tackled Suggs.

Air marshals were also on board who cuffed Suggs and sat with him until the plane could land.

After the plane landed in Omaha, Nebraska, passengers applauded as the the man was escorted off the plane in cuffs. He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
