PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — A Pierre woman arrested after a bizarre chase with law officers has been sentenced to five years in prison.

Authorities say Alexis Cepak huffed a can of air duster during the March 2015 chase then bit officers who eventually stopped and arrested her.

Cepak later pleaded guilty to assault and eluding charges. She also admitted to being a habitual offender.

Cepak's attorney said during her recent sentencing that her wild behavior was due to mental health problems that are now being controlled with medication.

Prosecutors said Cepak has a criminal history including at least five arrests for driving under the influence. Highway Patrol Trooper Dylan Dowling called her a danger to society.

Judge John Brown sentenced Cepak to five years on each count, to be served at the same time.
