The Sioux Falls Skyforce officially announced Phil Weber as the teams new Head Coach on Wednesday afternoon at the Sanford Pentagon in SIoux Falls. Last season, under the leadership of Pat Delany, the Skyforce went 31-19 and made the playoffs for the first time since 2010.

Delany's performance during the 2013-14 season gave him an assistant coaching opportunity with the Charlotte Hornet's, which he accepted in early July. His decision prompted the Miami Heat organization to find a new head coach for their hybrid team in Sioux Falls.

Skyforce President Mike Heineman said he is excited to see what Weber can bring to this first class organization.

"To have a guy with this much NBA experience under his belt is kind of unheard of in the D-League. To have him bring his wealth and knowledge to our organization is something I'm really excited to see how it goes," said Heineman.

Weber has been with the Miami Heat for the past two years as a consultant for the franchise. He also has ovev a decade of experience in the NBA as an assistant coach. From 1999-2008 he was an assistant coach for the Phoenix Suns and from 2008-2012 he was an assistant coach in New York for the Knicks. Weber is a 1984 graduate of North Carolina State where he played basketball under Norm Sloan and Jim Valvano.

Weber said he's excited to get started with this new Head Coach opportunity in Sioux Falls. He said the Miami Heat is the best organization he has been apart of.

"It's the best, they don't leave anything for chance. Every part of the organization is born out of family and hard work. It's arguably the best franchise in all of sports, and I'll leave it at that," said Weber.

Weber is also extremely impressed with the Sanford Pentagon, the home facility of the Sioux Falls Skyforce.

"I'm stunned, because it's so nice. It's brand new, which doesn't hurt, to me it's brand new. I really thought it was Conseco [Fieldhouse] when I walked in here. I can see why fans really get fired up to come here, because it's an event. It's a happening and everybody wants to be where something is happening and I can see why this is a great place to hang out," said Weber.

Weber claims to be a passionate coach, but he doesn't exactly know how that will translate to his coaching style from the bench, in terms of body language.

"I think I'll be more composed, but I don't know. When things are done well, because you work so hard to perfectly execute, that I will get excited about that. And conversely I'll get a little bit [upset] over the other way. I'll just try to bring my energy to it, but I'm not going to be a ranter or a raver," said Weber.

Weber steps into this new role as the 17th Head Coach in Skyforce franchise history. He said he understands the expectations are high, because of last years success. Weber said he guarantees he'll give his best effort in building a team for fans in Sioux Falls to be proud of.
