Patrick Reed’s epic post tournament rant at Doral, Tiger’s aching back, and the updated Masters odds

Golf is generally regraded as a gentleman’s game where players usually let their clubs do their talking, but not for the PGA Tour’s latest winner.

As soon as 23-year old Patrick Reed won the World Golf Championships – Cadillac Championship at Doral, the Texan began elevating himself into the elite of the current golf world with statements like:

Now, I have three wins on the PGA Tour.

I just don’t see a lot of guys who’ve done that, besides Tiger and the other legends of the game.

I believe in myself.

I feel like I’m one of the top five players in the world. I feel like I’ve proven myself.

So can this kid back that up?  I asked our resident golf expert: Joel Harrington of 4 Deep Golf Blog:

While Reed was flourishing in Florida, his fellow ‘legend’ Tiger Woods was struggling.

One week after pulling out during the final round of the Honda Classic, Tiger was in the field at Doral and the back was again acting up Sunday.

Tiger came into the final round just three shots back, but an awkward shot from the sand on the sixth re-injured the back, and he ended up shooting a final round 78 – his worst Sunday score ever.

Harrington says when Tiger’s hurting, everyone knows it:

As for the Doral course itself, big changes in 2014 thanks to Donald Trump, who’s taken over control of the club.  For at least one day, Harrington says the course was too tough for the best players in the world:

The focus of the next four weeks in the golf world is simple – prepare for The Masters, which tees off April 10th in Augusta.

Despite his injury problems, Tiger Woods (7-to-1) continues to be the odds on favorite to win another green jacket, with Rory McIlroy (8-to-1) the only other player with single digit odds four weeks out.

Harrington says Tiger’s odds are based on history more than the current reality of his game:
