LEAD, S.D. (AP) — The U.S. Postal Service is cutting home mail delivery to more than 700 addresses in Lead and Deadwood after a string of injuries to postal workers.

Lead-Deadwood Postmaster Laura Uhrig says seven workers have reported injuries in the past three years due to falls related to poor sidewalks and roads.

The Postal Service next month will discontinue home delivery to 533 addresses in Lead and 218 in Deadwood. The mail will instead be delivered to centralized locations, where affected residents each will have a locked, individual mailbox.

The Black Hills Pioneer reports that about 20 percent of Deadwood addresses and 25 percent of Lead addresses are affected.
