OLIVET, S.D. (AP) — An 18-year-old Parkston man who was involved in an armed standoff with police in March will be able to erase his assault conviction from his record if he follows the terms of his probation.

Nicholas Heisinger pleaded guilty last month to one count of felony aggravated assault for a March incident in which he held police at bay for two hours before surrendering.

The Associated Press reports Circuit Judge Patrick Smith has given Heisinger a suspended imposition of sentence, which means the felony will kept off his record if he successfully completes probation.

According to court documents, Heisinger will be on probation for four years, will have to refrain from using drugs and alcohol, and may have to enroll in a treatment program.
