FAIRFAX, S.D. (AP) — A pair is facing multiple felony charges in connection with a weekend chase in which South Dakota authorities say shots were fired at sheriff's deputies.

Attorney General Marty Jackley says charges against 29-year-old Samantha Lane and 29-year-old Nicholas Speckmeier include aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, grand theft and possession of loaded firearm.

The chase early Saturday began when a deputy attempted a traffic stop outside of Bonesteel. Authorities say the chase involved an exchange of gunfire between deputies and Speckmeier, who was driving the car, and Lane. It ended in Fairfax.

The Gregory County Sheriff's Office is crediting two brothers with helping in the arrest.

Jackley's office says Lane is from Sioux Falls and Speckmeier is from Worthington, Minnesota. It wasn't immediately clear if they have legal representation.
