Several Oklahoma schools closed Tuesday because of the threat of severe weather forecast for the area. Some cancelled all classes and other are dismissing early.

This new action is part of a tornado safety plan developed after an EF-5 tornado hit two Moore, OK elementary schools in 2013, killing seven children.

The Mid-Del School District in Oklahoma City said in a statement that as part of their safety plan they consulted with The National Weather Service and projections suggest that severe storms could be in the area in the afternoon.
