Off the Tee: Five First Timers, Phil Gets a New Swing Coach, Tiger Gets Called out
Just five weeks into the new PGA Tour schedule and already one long standing record has been shattered.
In the first five events of the season, we've had five first time winners on the tour - the most since 1960.
In this edition of "Off The Tee" with Joel Harrington from 4 Deep Golf Blog, we talk about the winner's circle rookies and a few other stories making news in the golf world.
Some of the headlines:
- Justin Thomas wins the CIMB Classic, thanks to a second round 61. Joel says the win was long overdue for Thomas.
- Russell Knox wins the HSBC Champions, playing alongside Dustin Johnson. Joel says you might be seeing Knox on the European Team at next year's Ryder Cup in the Twin Cities.
- Peter Malnati wins the weather-delayed Sanderson Farms Championship. I asked Joel who he thinks could be a first time winner when the Tour goes to Mexico for this week's OHL Classic.
- The European Tour is changing some rules - shortening the end of the year playoff series and reducing the minimum number of events players need to keep their tour membership. Joel says the changes are being made to appease the top players in the world.
- Phil Mickelson has parted ways with long time swing coach Butch Harmon. Joel says this was along time coming.
- Tiger Woods' former caddie Steve Williams has written a tell-all book, 'Out of the Rough', about his days carrying the bag of the #1 player in the world. Joel says most of the stories in the book make Williams look worse than Woods.
