If you're looking for some serious momentum heading into golf's final major of 2017, you do what Hideki Matsuyama did in his final tournament before teeing it up at Quail Hollow this week (August 10-13).

Matsuyama tied a course record with a final round 61 at Firestone to win the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational by five shots.

In this edition of 'Off The Tee', I asked Joel Harrington from 4 Deep Golf about Matsuyama's performance and whether that makes him the clear favorite heading to North Carolina this week.

Joel and I also discuss:

  • Quail Hollow, in Charlotte, is hosting the PGA Championship for the first time. The course has undergone some major renovations recently.
  • This venue has a tie to South Dakota. It played host to Onida native Tom Byrum's only PGA Tour win, in the 1989 Kemper Open.
  • Rory McIlroy is a 7-to-1 favorite to win the PGA. Four other players are better than 15-to-1.
