No One Injured in Corsica School Bus Crash

CORSICA, S.D. (AP) — A dozen students from the southeastern South Dakota town of Corsica escaped injury when the school bus in which they were riding was rear-ended by a minivan.

The Daily Republic reports that the crash occurred shortly before 4 p.m. Tuesday at a U.S. Highway 281 intersection.

Highway Patrol Trooper Matthew Peterson says 70-year-old Carole Muckey, of Harrison, was following the bus in her van, took her eyes off the road when her purse fell off the passenger seat and collided with the stopped bus. She was not injured but was cited for careless driving.

The students ranged in age from 5 to 12. They were checked at the scene by ambulance staff and released.
