As I pulled my car out of the garage to come to work early Monday morning (June 1, 2015 at 4:15AM), my headlights scanned across my front yard to reveal that I had been FLAMINGOED!

I stopped my car, right in the middle of the street, to check out the flock of pink, plastic flamingos that had (like a sign from God) landed in my front yard. With the glare of their wire legs stuck in various locations on the lawn, I knew exactly why they had landed where they did.

In a sense, those flamingos were a sign from God. Actually, to be more specific, it was a sign from Pastor Jess Daum and the Trinity Lutheran Youth Group of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Tea, South Dakota, asking for some help.

The Trinity Lutheran Youth Group will be attending the 2015 ELCA National Youth Gathering in Detroit, Michigan on July 15-19, 2015, and the pink, plastic flamingos visiting yards all around the community are part of a fundraiser to help pay for the teens to get there.

For a simple donation of $25, the pink flamingos will land in someone's yard. The lucky caretakers of the flamingos then make a donation to the Trinity Lutheran Youth Group to have the flock fly away to another overnight (and unsuspecting) home. The person that pays the $25 donation to Trinity Lutheran will then have the chance to decide where the flurry of flamingos will land next.

The flamingos are still moving from house to house.  I know, because I gave a $25 donation and this morning when I was leaving Tea to come to work, my headlights swiped across the lawn of some very dear friends of mine, Al and Ronda, who I'm sure were equally excited to see a sea of pink when they opened their garage door this morning!

To all of those that are playing along and supporting Trinity Lutheran's Youth Group, Pastor Jess says "Thank you!" If you are interested in possibly sponsoring an overnight stay for the flurry of flamingos, you can contact Pastor Jess at Trinity Lutheran Church in Tea at 605-498-2343.
