No Charges Filed in Fatal Minnesota, 41st Street Crash

SIOUX FALLS - Police have wrapped up their investigation into a chain-reaction crash that killed one person and injured six others at the intersection of 41st Street and Minnesota Avenue.

Lieutenant Jerome Miller of the Sioux Falls Police Department says investigators believe 32-year-old Troy Hohn of Sioux Falls was driving between 49 and 60 miles per hour when his northbound SUV crashed into several other vehicles at the stoplight. Hohn was killed in the crash.

On February 14, Hohn was driving a Chevy Blazer when he struck a Dodge Durango waiting at a traffic light, which began a chain-reaction involving several other vehicles. Hohn’s vehicle flipped onto it’s roof and came to a stop next to the gas pumps at Taylor’s Pantry on the southeast corner of 41st & Minnesota.

A total of six people were taken to various hospitals with non-life threatening injuries, including a several children.

"Best we can determine there was no mechanical defect that occurred at the time prior to impact," said Miller. "There was no alcohol involved. There were no drugs involved."

Hohn did have a number of moving violations on his record, though no felonies. He was convicted of fleeing from an officer in Minnesota in 2003. Hohn also had three speeding tickets, and one DUI conviction in 2007.

No charges are being filed in connection with this crash.

Miller says while no medical condition, such as a heart attack, caused the crash, police tests do not cover Hohn's mental state at the time of the crash. He does say the vehicle data recorder indicates Hohn hit his brakes just before his vehicle struck the others.
