RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — A judge in Rapid City has refused to lower bond for a man accused of killing another man in an alley last month.

Eighteen-year-old Michael Hand is being held on $500,000 bond in the death of 47-year-old Myron Rock, whose body was found on July 6. An autopsy concluded that Rock died from blunt force trauma and strangulation.

Hand has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to a murder charge. Defense attorney Eric Whitcher on Monday unsuccessfully argued for a bond reduction to $25,000, saying his client was having a difficult time in jail.

Prosecutor Tracey Decker objected to the request, citing Hand's criminal history.

Judge Janine Kern ruled that Hand could be a danger to the community if released.
