Blame it on the oil boom!

Even though our country is growing older, here in the heart of America research has proven it's the other way around.

Census Bureau figures show the United States as a whole is getting older, but not everywhere, thanks to oil. The aging baby boom generation helped the median age in the United States creep up last year from 37.5 years to 37.6 years.

A second look at data released today shows that seven states - Alaska, Hawaii, Montana, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Wyoming - actually became younger, thanks in part to an oil boom in those states.
