It's only taken ten years, but the most famous faces of South Dakota are getting a change. People of South Dakota knew we would be getting a new look on our vehicle's license plates, but the design was still a mystery. But not anymore!

The new 2016 South Dakota license plate (non-commercial standard plate) will feature Mount Rushmore in gray, a blue background with South Dakota written in blue lettering.

The change of design to South Dakota license plates is needed, as many of the current license plates have been on vehicles for an extended period of time. This makes them damaged and less reflective, creating problems with people trying to read them correctly.

The new redesigned South Dakota license plates will be available to everyone starting January 1, 2016 and vehicle owners will be able to get them at their regular vehicle registration renewal.
