Increased foot traffic, trash and police calls are some of the problems businesses in the Whittier area say they've been dealing with since the Bishop Dudley Hospitality House opened two months ago.

The shelter has taken in hundreds assisting them in turning their lives around, but the facility has also drawn in some less pleasant guests to the neighborhood, and nearby businesses are feeling the effects.

KDLT TV talked with business owners in the area including Inside Midstates Imprinted Sportswear co-owner Dick Year. "It truly is constant. The police involvement increased. Gosh, I don't even know how much it increased. We're a block away from it.The people that are really seeing it are right across the street from it,"

Also about a block away, Rick Ahlers has had similar problems at his body shop. He also offers a solution. "I don't even want to get into the details of the stuff I find in my parking lot. There's an awful lot of yellow snow this time of year up here.I don't want my customers to have to experience the uncomfortableness of having to walk through a parking lot and having glasses blow around. If the city is going to continue to concentrate this into a small area like this, then they better be willing to concentrate their police force into a little more man power,"
