Nebraska’s Bo Pelini Wants More Fun, Less Pressure For Cornhuskers

Bo Pelini, Nebraska Cornhuskers

Nebraska football coach Bo Pelini met the media for his usual Monday morning press conference in Lincoln, but this week’s event was far from ‘usual’ after the Huskers turned a 21-3  lead into a 41-21 loss to UCLA Saturday.

Pelini said he ‘did a lot of soul searching’ after the game, and has decided that the ‘culture’ of the Nebraska program needs to change going forward:

When I look back on it I think did I — or have I — pushed to the extent where they’re not having fun anymore and they’re playing not to lose?

Because, trust me, they want to be great.

The things that happened in the game weren’t necessarily physical, but at times mental.

And at the end of the day, that comes back on me.

Am I doing the right things to, No. 1, to make sure — first and foremost — that these young men are enjoying their experience, and No. 2, they’re able to handle the pressure and adversity?

…I push, push push — and believe me, there’s gotta be some of that — but there has to be a fine line.

And I want our players to get back to having fun again.

I want them to go back to going out and playing to win and not worrying about losing the football game.

Nebraska looks to bounce back when they host South Dakota State Saturday afternoon at 2:30pm.  The Huskers are early 24 1/2 point favorites in that game, which you can hear live right here on ESPN 99.1.

Why the Pelini Recording Should Disgust Nebraska Cornhusker Fans
