The Nebraska Cornhuskers are swapping a SEC opponent for a PAC 12 powerhouse in 2016 and 2017. The Huskers have agreed to a home-and-home football series with the University of Oregon.

The change was necessary after Tennessee opted out of their scheduled games with Nebraska starting in three years.  That allowed the athletic departments in Lincoln and Eugene to set up this home-and-home series.

Nebraska Athletics Director Shawn Eichorst said in a press release:

This is a win-win scenario.

Tennessee asked for scheduling relief, and we were able to add the University of Oregon, a perennial top-25 program, to our non-conference schedule as we roll into the College Football Playoff era.

This should be a great series, not only for our football programs, but for the tremendous fans of both schools.

Nebraska and Oregon will play in Lincoln’s Memorial Stadium, September 17, 2016. The Huskers will then travel to Eugene’s Autzen Stadium, September 9, 2017.

One interesting side note: Former Nebraska quarterback Scott Frost is currently the Ducks’ offensive coordinator.

The Cornhuskers hold a 5-1 lead in the all-time series, with the last five played in Lincoln. The Ducks lone win came in Lincoln – in 1953.

The Huskers will still play Tennessee, although now those games won’t take place until  2026 and 2027.
