In case you're not aware, the last Wednesday in August is National Toilet Paper Day - which brings up the age old question, "Over or under?" And let the record show I AM AN OVER PERSON! Always have been, always will be.

In fact, I can't believe I'm going to admit this, but I've even been known to switch the toilet paper roll while at someone else's house - which I know is so wrong, but I can't help it. I was brought up in a house where the toilet paper goes over the top.

Which, I think, is why some of us are "over" people and others are "under" people. I think it has to do with the way your were brought up. And I just happened to grow up in a house where the toilet paper always rolled off from the top.

For the past few years my mom has started doing something that drives me completely crazy (which is maybe why she's doing it). Before putting the toilet paper on the dispenser, she squeezes it so it won't roll on its own (Mr. Whipple must be spinning in his grave).

All I can figure is it all started when the grandkids were young and would spend time at the farm. Apparently, someone who shall remain nameless (not my kids, my sister's), thought it would be fun to spin all the toilet paper on the floor.

If you've ever tried re-rolling toilet paper, you know how difficult it is. There's no easy way to get the paper back on the tube. In fact, it's impossible! Show me toilet paper that's been pulled off the cardboard tube and re-rolled and I'll show you one heck of a mess.

Recently, when visiting us in Sioux Falls, my mom had to use the bathroom and needed toilet paper. Yup, she "squeezed the roll" like she does at home! Hell hath no fury like a man who can't get the toilet paper to roll off easily. Let's just say she won't do that again.

So those of you new parents who may be reading this, when the time comes to potty train your little one, give some serious thought to how you're going to train him or her. Will the toilet paper roll from the top or the bottom? Only you can decide - so don't screw up!
