On Monday morning my friend / Ksoo News Director Beth Warden came up to me and asked me if I'd like to fly in a WWII Bomber.  After I realized she was serious, I said heck ya!

The Commemorative Air Force is giving folks around Sioux Falls a chance to take rides on WWII B-25 Bomber.  And yesterday they invited Beth and I along with 5 other souls to take a ride back in time.

The B-25 is named "Maid in the Shade" and flew 15 bombing missions over Italy in WWII.  It is 1 of 30 B-25s left in the world.

"Maid in the Shade" is rigged with 12 50-caliber machine guns and a large bombay in the middle of the plan.

Pilot Spike McLane explained to us "Our main purpose of flying this airplane around. It's to remind people about WWII and the sacrifices that were made."

Thousands of people sacrificed and died in WWII.  Thank you to Sioux Falls Joe Foss Squadron and the Commemorative Flight for reminding us of the price so many great people paid for the freedoms we enjoy.

The B-25 will be in Sioux Falls through Friday, June 19.  Flights cost anywhere from $395-$650.  You can book a flight on the aircraft by calling 480-322-5503, or by emailing b25rc@azcaf.org.

I don't know exactly how to describe my flight in "Maid In The Shade."  I just kept trying to imagine how intimidating it must have been for those young men flying bombing missions in WWII.  I was sitting in the same seats they sat in when they were going into battle.  Very humbling indeed.

Here is some video from my flight back in history.
