To start the new season, Sioux Falls will have multiple options inside and outside with one man able to produce from both areas.

Byron Mullens is seven feet tall which is an advantage for scoring near the basket. Mullens also has embraced the aspect of the three point shot making him a threat on the perimeter.

Mullens is not afraid to pull the trigger from long range. Upon joining the ‘Force in February of last season, Mullens averaged five attempts from long range per game connecting at a 35 percent clip.

Unfortunately as the playoffs approached, Mullens was sidelined with an injury that made him a spectator. Returning to the Skyforce means he is on the mend. “The injury bug has been getting me. There’s got to be some luck coming my way. Getting back on the court and getting in shape will be what I need to do. I’m looking forward to it.”

On Mullens’ ledger is almost 200 NBA games played with Oklahoma City, Charlotte, the Clippers and Philadelphia. He was also a High School All-American and a one-and-done player at Ohio State.

Whether the Association welcomes Mullens back will hinge on being able to go full speed. “The most important thing is to get healthy. I’ve been rehabbing and treating my body right. It will take a little while to get in game shape, but that’s what training camp is for.”

Mullens also speaks highly of the surroundings in Sioux Falls for the ability to recuperate. “This is the perfect place for a young guy to come in. The Fieldhouse is across the road and you’ve got a great facility at the Pentagon. If you need something all you have to do is ask.”

With a half dozen professional seasons under his belt, Mullens also can show his ability to lead. “There are a lot of young guys on our team. I’m here to help them out along the way (especially with) time management. You have free time, but use it to rest your body and let it heal.” By taking his own advice, Mullens may prove his way back to the NBA.
