More Women at the Top of South Dakota’s Ballot

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Come November, women want to make sure South Dakota politics is no longer a boy's club.

Six women — including incumbent Republican U.S. Rep Kristi Noem — are running for top statewide or congressional offices.

Gubernatorial candidate Susan Wismer became the first woman in South Dakota to win a major party's nomination for the office, and chose Susy Blake as her running mate.

Wismer, a state representative, says her upbringing has played a role in going after what she wants.

Noem says that women want to see their population reflected in politics.
