SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - A new survey shows that more than 100,000 people in South Dakota do not always know where their next meal will come from.

The findings from "Map the Meal Gap" by Feeding America show than 12.5 percent of the population in the state struggle with hunger.

Of the more than 100,000 people in the state who do not always know where they will get their next meal, more than 36,000 of those are children.

The study shows that 60 percent of children at risk of hunger in South Dakota are eligible for nutrition programs like free or reduced-price school lunch or breakfast.

Feeding South Dakota executive director Matt Gassen says hunger is a reality in every South Dakota community.
