SISSETON, S.D. (AP) — A Minnesota man accused of trying to kill a man in the northeastern South Dakota city of Sisseton has been sentenced to 15 years in prison on a lesser charge.

The American News reports that 21-year-old Tanner Dowell, of Breckenridge, Minn., pleaded guilty to aggravated assault. Prosecutors in return dismissed an attempted murder charge.

Dowell was accused of shooting Dillon DeCoteau in the face on Sept. 10. DeCoteau was taken to a hospital in Fargo, N.D., for treatment.

Authorities did not disclose a motive for the shooting.
